Fortnite Chapter 2 Launches on a New Island

13 new locations, a new XP system and medals, a streamlined weapon arsenal, swimming, fishing, and the ability to hide in haystacks are just a few of the new features.

Fortnite Chapter 2

Regular Fortnite players were left without a game to play earlier this week as Epic Games decided to suck the world into a black hole. But everyone can now relax as the US' favorite game is back for Chapter 2.

What Epic has done is to create an all-new island for the next chapter of Fortnite, complete with 13 new locations to explore. But it's not just the landscape that's changed, so has a lot of what you can do in it as the Chapter 2 trailer below reveals.

New gameplay features include the ability to swim or go fishing and it's now possible to travel by boat. There's also new ways to support your squad including a bandage bazooka for healing a teammate, or if a member of your team falls in battle, it's possible to carry them to safety. Group celebrations have also been updated with new emotes including high fives.

In terms of combat, stealth can play a key role as Epic added the ability to hide in objects such as haystacks and dumpsters. If you spot a gas tank or an explosive barrel, they can be used tactically to create explosions and possibly take out an entire squad with one well-aimd sniper shot.

The weapons in Fortnite have been streamlined for Chapter 2 and it's possible to upgrade them at the upgrade bench using resources. Epic was also very keen to cut the amount of grind players do and have introduced a new XP system and medals earned in a match. Only time will tell how well the new system works.

There's certainly a lot to explore for seasoned players, and of course, Fortnite remains free to play. However, there's a Chapter 2 Season One Battle Pass already, offering seven new outfits, progression through searching chests, completing challenges, and eliminating opponents in return for XP and medals, all new weapon wraps, and it's possible to earn up to 1,500 V-Bucks. That's important beacuse the Battle Pass costs 950 V-Bucks, meaning earning 1,500 is enough to pay for the next Season Pass.
