Fortnite
Credit: Epic GamesChristmas is coming to Fortnite, but it may be coming a little bit later than we thought. Datamining had suggested that Fortniteâs big Winterfest event was going to start today, December 17, but weâre now a good ways into December 17 with no event in sight. I think we can assume that this is a delay of some kind, but thereâs not all that much to go on.
Itâs a bit tricky to know exactly whatâs going on because weâre going off of datamined information here: there hasnât been an official announcement yet, and so itâs difficult to call this a strict delay on a technical level. Datamines of this sort of thing have been very accurate in the past, however, and so itâs likely that the reason why this thing didnât start on December 17 and the reason we havenât yet had an official announcement are linked in some way.
Update: I missed the official announcement, and it appears there was an official announcement. Winterfest is delayed, and will likely release after the patch tomorrow.
Iâve asked Epic Games for comment and will update with any information, but I wouldnât expect much without an official announcement.
When it does start, Winterfest looks like itâs going to be an evolution of the 14 Days of Fortnite from last year. Weâre still likely going to get daily unlocking challenges with all sorts of goodies available from completing them, but weâre also getting something called the Winterfest Cabin, which according to leaks isnât quite like anything weâve had in the game so far. The Winterfest Cabin seems to be a more interactive version of the lobby, where you can go open presents and warm yourself by the fire outside of the context of a brutal fight to the death. Which is nice, because most everything in this game comes in the context of a brutal fight to the death.
Weâll see what happens soon, because thereâs a merry dusting of snow on the island and the holidays are not all that far away. Last yearâs event was almost absurdly generous, even going so far as to give my favorite back bling ever away for free: the surly dabbing gingerbread man. The game isnât quite as hot as it was then, but I think we can still expect some fun stuff.
