An Exclusive Scene From ‘Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker’ Is Premiering In ‘Fortnite’

So, it looks like you’re going to get a chance to watch a full scene form Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker before it’s actual release, but you’re going to need to do so under...interesting circumstances. An early scene is premiering inside of Fortnite, at an in-game drive-in theater. Posters went up this morning for the event, which is happening next Saturday.

If you want to watch, you’ll want to show up in-game on December 14 at 2:00 PM. The poster says J.J. Abrams will be there, but I have no clue what that actually translates to. I guess we’ll find out! It’s also a bit unclear what “exclusive” means, and whether or not this scene will be in the final movie. I’ve asked for clarification on that.

Fortnite is no stranger to crossovers, having worked with John Wick, Ralph Breaks the Internet, Batman and more. It’s biggest crossover by far, however, was another Disney collaboration: two years worth of Avengers events that allowed the players either control Thanos or take up arms against him in the fight for the Infinity Stones.

This isn’t quite on that scaleâ€"though who knows what else we might see after the movie releases. The best analogue to this would be the Fortnite X Marshmello event from last year, a live in-game concert from the DJ that for a time felt like an unofficial mascot for the series. This is probably going to be a bit simpler than that, but it’s still a new scene from the most-anticipated movie of the season, so there you go.

Maybe you’re a Star Wars fan but don’t play Fortnite? Luckily, this thing is available on just about everything, so if you’ve got a phone or a computer you’ll most likely be able to watch the thing, and even then it will likely be online afterwards. It’s a smart move on Epic’s part: this will likely drive a bunch of downloads from curious fans that might not have signed on to this game before, and some of them might give the thing a whirl after the scene. Or they might just wind up with the Epic Games Store on their computer, which is another win for the company.

We’ll see what happens next weekend, but for now I’m mostly watching to see if there are other parts of this crossover as well.
