What Happens At The End Of Fortnite’s New Countdown Timer?

The end of Fortnite Season 10 has been a bit confusing, with challenges trailing off and nothing new happening on the map in a while. Well, there’s one new thing. A countdown timer has appeared on the map over the recently built rocket in Dusty Depot.

Currently, the timer is about seven days away from…something, so what exactly is happening here?

Given that it’s literally on top of the rocket, we know that it’s going to launch, and that’s going to be at 2 PM ET on Sunday, October 13. But there’s a key difference here between this event and past events, namely that it seems as if Season 11 of Fortnite is scheduled to start the exact moment this event ends, which has not happened in the game before.

The implication there is that whatever is about to go down, it’s going to be something more major than anything we’ve seen before. We’ve had past “big” events, sure, but when they finished there was still usually a period of lingering “in between time” between seasons. As in, when the first rocket launched it created a crack in the sky that sat there the rest of the season. The monster fight left a skeleton in the grass for a while before new map changes came later. The first meteor strike was not an actual “event” at all, as the season just changed over and the crater was there.

That does not seem to be what’s happening this time, and this goes together with theories that Epic is planning to unveil either an entirely new map or one that is dramatically transformed by whatever happens with this second rocket. This event is also literally called “The End” which is pretty foreboding, to say the least, and this entire season has been kind of a farewell tour to this current map.

So far through datamining we’ve seen at least 11 or so new named locations in the text, 3-4 times as many as we usually get in a new season, implying big changes ahead.

Honestly, it’s time. After ten seasons, Fortnite needs a new map, and I think that it’s a particularly prescient time to this given that Apex Legends, only in season 3, has already rolled out a completely new map well before Fortnite. There are only so many changes Fortnite can keep making to the current map, and I think something large and splashy is needed for this fall. A new map could do the trick, provided it’s well done. And I am certainly looking forward to writing challenge guides for a map no one has ever seen before.

So, clear out your calendar for Sunday afternoon and get ready to watch the rocket nuke the map or teleport it to an alternate reality or whatever it’s going to do. It’s going to be something to behold.
