‘Minty’ Codes: How To Get The ‘Merry Mint’ Pickaxe In ‘Fortnite’

All of a sudden, everyone can’t seem to stop talking about the Minty pickaxe. I see code giveaways, code requests, a healthy helping of fraud: all that sort of thing. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a Fortnite cosmetic draw this much attention, and at first I couldn’t quite figure out why: it’s Christmas-themed pickaxe and, I don’t know, seems fine. But it’s rare, at least for now. And we lust after rare things in these games because that’s how we’re hardwired. Here’s what’s going on here, and who to get it.

It’s no secret that Epic makes a ton of money from licensed products: the company made an incredible sprint to store shelves, bringing a full array of merchandise to retailers in just months after it became clear that such a move could be very profitable. This isn’t going to change any time soon.

The Minty pickaxe is a special bonus for anyone that buys official Fortnite gear at certain retailers in France, the US and Germany. But here’s the thing: it’s not widely available yet. This is the rub: apparently some people were able to get early codes from visiting Gamestops in the US. That makes them rare, early and slightly hard to pin down, and that’s a recipe for mania where Fortnite cosmetics are concerned. So when you see people jonesing after Minty codes on twitter or wherever, they're hunting one of these super rare early codes.

Apparently, Minty rewards are now being granted in-game, so if you’ve managed to score an early code from a certain retailer or gotten one from someone that did, you should be getting your pickaxe soon. If you see one of these in-game, that’s where ti comes from.

For everyone else, you’ll be able to get one when this promotion expands. This should happen soon, but we don’t have a specific date. So hold on a second and go buy a piece of Fortnite merch if you want a code, but by that point it won’t be nearly so rare as it is now.
