'Fortnite' Weapon Upgrade Guide - Upgrade Bench Locations & More

Fortnite Season 2 introduces a brand-new feature called weapon upgrades. In short, it allows players to spend small amounts of materials to increase the loot tier of a weapon in their inventory. Using Weapon Upgrade Benches, it's possible to secure high-tier loot without relying purely on random luck. In this guide, we'll tell you how to upgrade weapons and where to find Upgrade Benches.

The Basics of Weapon Upgrades

As many Fortnite fans will likely know, the popular Battle Royale features five basic tiers of loot.

  • Common (Gray)
  • Uncommon (Green)
  • Rare (Blue)
  • Epic (Purple)
  • Legendary (Orange)
  • Each of these tiers offers weapons with slightly improved stats from the previous level. Using a Weapon Upgrade Bench, it's possible to upgrade a Common Shotgun, for example, all the way to Legendary provided you've harvested enough mats to do so. Here are the costs associated with advancing each tier.

  • Common to Uncommon: 50 of each material
  • Uncommon to Rare: 150 of each material
  • Rare to Epic: 250 of each material
  • Epic to Legendary: 350 of each material
  • While it's still technically possible to find a high-tier weapon by random chance, upgrades offer a path to guarantee them if a player chooses.
